For more than a decade, the problem of Muslim graveyard land allocation in Goa has not been solved. This year on 24-25 August, National Commission for Minorities (NCM) vice chairperson HT Sangliana and member Syeda Imam visited Goa to inspect the site acquired by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) for the purpose. The acquired land is adjacent to Goa’s biggest garbage dump. This dump emits foul odours kilometres away, as claimed by Abdul Matin Daud Carol, general secretary, Masjid-e-Gausiya, Margao, who is the petitioner in the case.
